ISLE OF SKYE DIGITAL MARKETING
Early in 2017 we were contacted by Ian MacDonald about the possibility of creating a new website design for his self catering business. Ian's current site had a number of issues one of which was it's lack of mobile responsiveness. The site design was also very basic and the property was in need of more up to date and professional images.
Hugh Campbell Marketing quoted accordingly which was accepted by Ian and we then scheduled a date to visit the property and take images. The property was very unique in that it is a several hundred year old building with 7 feet thick outside walls. This results in the Cottage being very warm inside. We felt we wanted to capture the uniqueness of the property as best as possible so we took a selection of exterior images from various angles and also some scenic shots.
With the exterior Photography in place we then photographed the building interior. The interior hallway leads to the kitchen which we photographed top down with the bedroom door open to give a better idea of overall property layout to potential customers.
We took time photographing the living area as the lighting in the room required some adjustment before satisfactory images could be taken. All images were taken on a Nikon D8200 with Nikkor lens.
With the photos in place we then returned to the office and adjusted them accordingly in Adobe Photoshop. We then began the design. It was decided to opt for an adaptive single page design based on the images and text available. The navigation bar was pinned to the top of the page with anchor points for each relevant section in place allowing the user completely free and easy site navigation. We also integrated a "Book Now" button in the navigation linking to on-line booking system "Freetobook".
As the user scrolls down the page we implemented scroll motion effects where the objects face in upwards to the page . This effect was applied to both graphic and text objects. This provided a nice juxtaposition with the traditionally designed cottage and modern slick website visual.
Also included was a responsive gallery where a selection of the best images are displayed which enlarge to full size on user click. Other images are held in place and as the user scrolls down the way the image is scrolled over which gives the effect of the page moving over the image.
We then created a bespoke mobile site design and optimised both sites for search engine appearance on Google and Bing. You can view the finished site at the following link:
Speaking of our service business owner Ian G MacDonald added "Excellent work by Hugh Campbell Marketing. We now have a modern and highly functional website for our business. Many thanks!".
